DRM

DRM (Digital Rights Management) encrypts the video. The player gets a license from the MEGOGO license server to play it. This page explains how MEGOGO selects the DRM system and the stream protocol.

Which videos have DRM

In the XML feed, protection tells if the object has DRM:

protection Meaning
0 No DRM
Any other value, for example PMF DRM. PMF = PlayReady, Modular (Widevine), FairPlay

Only the objects with DRM come with DRM. Objects without DRM come without DRM also on a key with DRM.

Settings of a key

MEGOGO sets the stream settings of each key. You do not send them in the request.

Setting Options
Protocol for videos without DRM HLS, DASH or MSS
DRM system and protocol Widevine (DASH), PlayReady (DASH or MSS), FairPlay (HLS)
4K (UHD) A separate setting with H.265: HLS or DASH, with or without DRM. Without this setting, 4K versions do not play

Tell your MEGOGO manager which protocols and DRM systems your player supports on each platform.

DRM data in the /stream response

drm_type DRM system stream_type Data for the player
"" (empty) No DRM hls, dash or mss —
modular Widevine dash license_server
playready PlayReady dash license_server
fairplay FairPlay hls license_server and license_certificate
  • Each item of bitrates has its own src and license_server. Use the license server of the URL that you play.
  • Do not use is_wvdrm. It is always false. Use drm_type.

If the video has DRM and your key has no DRM setting, /stream gives a restriction. See Play a video.
